Procedures of applying for Work Permit for foreign teachers
Step 1. Submit document of applying for Approval of use of foreign workers
Universities, international schools, and foreign language centers in Vietnam that wish to recruit foreign teachers to teach need to prepare documents including:
- Notarized Certificate of Business Registration, License of Center establishment or Certificate of School Establishment.
- Explanatory report on demand for foreign teachers
- Letter of introduction
Processing time: 10 working days, not including the time the system receives and the time to return results by post.
Note: At least 30 days before the expected date of recruiting foreign teachers, the school/center needs to send a report explaining the need to use foreign workers to the approval agency.
Step 2. Submit document of applying for Work Permit for foreign teacher in English
After obtaining the Approval of using worker, the language center needs to prepare the following documents to apply for a work permit for teachers in foreign language:
- A written request for a work permit for a foreign worker, made according to the form No. 11 specified in Appendix I to Decree 152/2020/ND-CP of the government in 2020.
- Documents proving that the teacher’s education and experience are relevant to the position applying for a work permit. Specifically: a Pedagogical University degree (for teachers of other subjects), a Tesol degree (for the position of an English teacher), confirmation of 3 years or more teaching experience abroad.
- Approval of using foreign workers (please refer to step 1).
- Certificate of Health Examination in foreign country or certificate of health examination in Vietnam and examined after entering Vietnam. The Certificate of Health examination is valid for 12 months.
- Criminal Record in Vietnam (Criminal Record No. 1) or Criminal Record in foreign country legalized and notarized translated into Vietnamese (with a validity of no more than 6 months from the date of issue).
- 2 color photos (size 4×6 cm, bare head, front view, clear face, clear ears, no glasses, white background), photos were taken not older than 6 months by the time of application submission.
- A copy of the passport or a valid document in lieu of a valid passport as prescribed by law. Enclosed with a Vietnam visa which is still valid to make a work permit.
Processing time: 5 working days, not including the time the system receives when submitting through the online public service portal and the time to return results by post.
Note: Documents issued by foreign countries (university degree, Confirmation of experience, criminal record, Certificate of Health examination…) must be consular legalized and notarized translated into Vietnamese.
Step 3. Receive result of Work Permit for foreign teachers
When being informed that the result of Work Permit for English teachers is obtained, Korean teachers…, the international school/guarantor center must send the original set of documents to the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and wait for the results to be returned by post.
